Abstract

1328769 Roller driving clutch for association with stop motions ADRIANO GARDELLA SpA 14 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 27836/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] Clutch mechanism. A roller 1 mounted freely on a driving shaft 3 common to several roller heads has a flange 4 forming half of a clutch, the other half 14 of which is connected to the shaft 3. Bores 15 in one clutch half carry spring loaded elements 17, e.g. balls, which engage catch bores 18 in the other clutch half. A disc 19 lying between the clutch halves has apertures 20 which taper in a circumferential direction, Fig. 5. This disc 19 is stopable by a pawl 21 which engages teeth 119 of the disc 19 when operated by a lever 22 of a tension sensing stop motion (not shown). The elements 17 are thus carried towards the narrow ends of apertures 20 and hence retracted from driving engagement with the catch bores 18. The device also operates as a torque limiting mechanism, which disengages if the roller is fouled, due to the only partial engagement of elements 17 with bores 18. A bearing lubrication bore 23 is provided. Roller arrangement. Roller 1 frictionally drives a roller 2. A gear 5 formed on flange 4 drives a gear 6 to rotate a roller 7. Roller 7 carries a belt 8 against which further rollers 9 are pressed. (For Figures see next page)
