Abstract

1355976 Engine starter drives ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 8 July 1971 [9 July 1970] 32067/71 Heading F1K An internal-combustion engine starter drive has a starter pinion 12 which is displaceably and rotatably moutable on the armature shaft 11 of the starter motor and which meshes by way of teeth 15 acting as an over-running clutch with a clutch member 16 which is screwable on a screw-threaded portion 17 of a driver 18 which is non-rotatably but axially displaceably mounted on the armature shaft, the clutch member being acted upon by shift means 26 which become effective during the starting operation and a locking device 30, 31 is arranged between the starter pinion and the clutch member and after the over-running clutch has been released at over-running speed maintains the clutch teeth out of mesh down to low speeds. The balls 30 engage under the influence of centrifugal force into an annular groove 31 in the inner face of the clutch member 16 when the clutch teeth are separated from each other.
