Abstract

1,152,919. Engine turning gear. G. DUSTERLOH FABRIK FUR BERGWERKSBEDARF G.m.b.H. Aug. 31, 1966 [Aug.31, 1965], No.38807/66. Addition to 965, 021. Heading F1K. The invention comprises an improvement in a modification of the compressed air starter claimed in any one of the claims of Specification 965, 021 wherein a wedge body clutch 24 is provided between a rotatable member 40 forming an output of the rotor means and a shaft 14 carrying the pinion, the pinion shaft being axially slidable to cause the pinion to move to its effectual position against a coupling force exerted by the wedge body clutch between the pinion shaft and the member forming an output of the rotor means. The coupling force is caused by rotation of the output member of the rotor means during the rotation of the rotor means at the minimum speed thereof. The first control piston 5 is connected through a lost motion linkage with a member 18 arranged to cause the axial sliding movement of the pinion shaft. It is stated that there is more reliable separation between the pinion and the starter motor when the internalcombustion engine starts.
