For this purpose, it has alreadybeen proposed to arrange,betweenv thev driven feed roller and lan impact ring, controllable. by a thread feeler., bothof which are freely mounted on the driving shaft, an intermediary member v.surroundi-ng theasaid driving shaft, which member` is..permanently` in engagement with-the feed roller and with: the impactv ring andwhich; eects a friction coupling betweenythefeedroller and thedriving shaft as soon as tllile rotation, of thefeedy -roller lags behind the driving s aft.
Inparticular for carrying out this general idea a spiral spring surrounding: the shaft; is connected on the one handto the oneendof the driven feed roller and. on the otherzhand` to theimpact ring.
According.y to the invention the intermediary member comprises \a spring ring O f preferably rectangular cross.
section,whichl at that side which faces the driving shaft is" provided vwithY a cavity which is of wedge shape with respect to the surface` of the shaft, which cavity lies opposite to a recess provided at the opposite side of the spring ring for-allowing resilient movement thereof; also1 betweenv the said wedge shaped cavity and the shaftthere is`provided `an annular space in` which is positioneda rolling member, and intol which projects a Acollar connectedfastto the impact ring in such a manner that the rolling member lies inA a gap formed by interrupting the said` collar. 'Ifhisarrangement results in an extremely simpleconstructionin that a wound spring ring needgnot be used but merely a resilient steel ringwhich'can deflect in a cavity. The coupling and del-.coupling may be carried out in avery reliable manner with very'simple means.
Preferablythelwedge shapedcavity is so formed that inlthe frest position of the intermediaryring thereexists al minimurnyalue for the intervalA between the wedge surfacefandhthe driving shaft, whichminimuml value is lesslthan tl'ieidiameter of the rollingmember,y and from tlii'sposition the wedge surface is `so shaped that on either side of the minimum interval the distance between the wedge surface and the driving shaft increases. By this means there is obtained the advantage that upon the occurrence of an over-load the intermediary ring yields to such an extent that the rolling member rolls away from the position of minimum interval and, since the interval between the wedge surface and the shaft increases, releases the coupling. In the practical operation of the device the fact that over-load protection is provided by the device according to the invention without breakdown of any one of the parts represents a substantial advantage.
The rolling member may be in the form of a roller or 2,807,131 Patented Sept. 24, 1957 ice 2 a ball. The recess, which liesopposite to the wedge shaped cavity, may beformedr either in the intermediary ring or alternatively-in thev feed roller. The intermediary ring may be in the form of a completely closed ring or a divided ring.
Further improvements and suitable embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference tothe accompanying-drawingin which are represented simplified constructions whilst omitting all the details which are not immediately essential.

Upon the driving shaft 1 there are freely mounted in adjacent relationship an impact ring 2 and a feed roller 3. The impact ring is provided with a plurality of detents 6-which are preferablyequally distributed around itsperiphery and with whichkdetents a pawl 21, equivalent to pawl 1 6 of my said prior Patent No. 2,623,348, can` engage,A upon breakage of the thread, to arrest rotation of the, impact ring, Within a concentric groove of the feed roller" @thereis arranged an intermediary ring 8 between whose two ends 9 and 10 engages a pin. A11 which is secured fast to the feed roller 3. Between this intermediary ring 8 -ar1 d the driving shaft 1 there is an annular space intok whichprojects a collar 5 which is in one piece with4 the impact, ring 2. This collar is split in such a way that it4 forms al cage 12 within which a roller 4,is freely rotatable. The diameter of this roller is a little greater than the thickness of the collar 5.
The intermediary ring S is provided at that end adjacent` to its edge 9 'with a wedge shaped cavity 7Y which comprises a wedge surface 13 and a transitional rounded surface 14. Thewedge surface13 represents substantially a tangent at the inner periphery of the intermediary ring 8, in that -at'thepoint P there exists the minimum free` spacebetwecnthe wedge surface 13 and the surface ,of the driving shaftV 1, From this point outwards the. dis-` tances between the wedge surface and the shaft` gradually increase.v i v The intermediary ring is( providedaat its outer surface,- i. e.. that surface which is opposite tothe wedgeV surface 13, with-Aa long'recess 1,5whvichextends fromthe edge 9to a point 16,.v The recess 15 is therefore somewhat longer than the wedge shaped cavity. 7'.V Thus when pressure is exerted outwardly uponrthe wedgesurfacell `the ring 8 is able to spring outwardly.
Figure 21shows the device according to the invention in the uncou'pled conditionin which theroller 4 is situated in the rounded portion 14;"y VJhentheVv impact ring), is not held fast by the impact lever, the said ring is carried round in consequence of the friction of the rotating driv-V ing shaft 1, whereby the rolle-r 4 resting in the cage 12 is also carried along in the direction of the arrow a-b.
In this way there is produced a clamping action between the wedge surface 13, the roller 4 and the periphery of the 'driving shaft 1 so that the feed roller 3 is also driven. Upon the occurrence of an over-load and the application of a correspondingly increased moment the As soon as the impact ring 2 is held fast upon actuation of the knock-olf motion by means of the impact lever (not shown), then, by the overtaking action of the feed roller 3, the roller 4 rotates out of the wedge angle into the position shown in Figure 2 in which the coupling is released and in which the feed roller 3 is also locked against further rotary motion since the roller 4 lies against the rounded portion 14 of the ring 8.
A further advantage of the invention lies in the 'fact that it is not necessary to provide right-handed and lefthanded constructions of the individual parts.
In the constructioual form shown in Figs. 3 to 5 a completely closed intermediary ring is employed instead of a divided ring. Otherwise this construction corresponds substantially with that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 so that the same reference characters are used to indicate the same or corresponding parts in each construction. The pin 11 connected with the feed roller 3 is here received in an aperture 17 provided for this purpose in the intermediary ring 8. The wedge shaped cavity 7 in this case comprises a circular arcuate portion 18 whose radius is larger than that of the inner surface of the intermediary ring 8 and whose centre point lies eccentric to the axis of the shaft 1. In this manner there is formed an arcuate cavity with two wedge surfaces which meet on the point P where the width of the wedge is at a minimum. From the point P the wedge surfaces extend on both sides in such a manner that the interval between the arcuate section 18 and the periphery of the driving shaft increases.
A leaf spring 20 is inserted in an annular groove 19 of the impact ring 2 in such a manner that its ends lie against the outer periphery of the groove whilst its centre is pressed against the periphery of the shaft 1. In this manner there is obtained between the impact ring and the shaft 1 a frictional effect Whose value can be ac` curately determined and this effect improves the mode of operation of the device, which it is not necessary to describe in further detail since it corresponds substantially with that of the device described in Figures l to 3.
In the construction according to Fig. 3 the recess 15 which lies opposite the wedge shaped cavity 7 is provided in the feed roller 3 without altering in any respect the mode of operation of the device.
What I claim is:
1. In a device Ifor automatically interrupting the supply of spinning material to spinning machines in particular jute spinning machines, upon breakage of a fibre or thread, in combination, a rotatable shaft, a feed roller rotatably supported on said shaft, a detent member rotatably supi ported on said shaft adjacent said feed roller and provided With detents, a rotating arresting pawl actuated upon breakage of the thread to move into the path of said de-' tents, a radially resilient spring member drivably connected with said feed roller and provided with an inclined surface wedged with respect to said detent member, a rolling member drivably connected to said detent member and engaging both said shaft and said inclined surface of said spring member, said spring member and said feed roller defining between them a space opposite to said inclined surface.
2. In a device as claimed in claim 1, a collar connected with said detent member and having a cage for receiving said rolling member, said feed roller having a recess therein for receiving said collar.

3. In a device as claimed in claim 1, said spring mem ber having a cavity and said feed roller being provided with a protruding member engaging in said cavity.
4. In a device as claimed in claim 1, said spring member being formed as a ring divided by a gap for receiving a protruding member provided on said feed roller, said inclined surface being provided on one free end of said ring-formed spring member.
5. In a device as claimed in claim 4, said ring-formed spring member being provided with a long recess opposite to said inclined surface.
6. In a device as claimed in claim 1, said inclined surface forming substantially a tangent with respect to a circle having its centre on the axis of said shaft.
7. In a device as claimed in claim 1, said inclined surface following a circle the centre of which is eccentric with respect to the axis of said shaft.
8. In a device `as claimed in claim 1, resilient means' being provided between said detent member and said shaft for increasing the frictional resistance between said member and said shaft.
9. In a device for automatically interrupting the supply of spinning material to spinning machines in particular jute spinning machines, upon breakage of a fibre or thread, in combination, a rotatable shaft, a feed roller rotatably supported on said shaft, a detent member rotatably supported on said shaft adjacent said feed roller and provided with detents, a rotating arresting pawl actuated upon breakage of the thread to move into the path of said detents, a closed ring drivably connected with said feed roller and encircling said shaft, a double-wedged surface provided on the inner side of said ring, said closed ring and feed roller having a space between them opposite said double wedged surface, a rolling member engaging both said double-wedged surface and said shaft, a collar connected with said detent member and having a cage for receiving said rolling member, said feed roller having a recess therein for receiving said collar.
10. In a device for automatically interrupting the supply of spinning material to spinning machines in particular jute spinning machines, upon breakage of a fibre or thread, in combination, a rotatable shaft, a feed rolle rotatably supported on said shaft, a detent member ro tatably supported on said shaft :adjacent said feed roller and provided with detents, a rotating arresting pawl actuated upon breakage of the thread to move into the path of said detents, a closed ring drivably connected with said feed roller and encircling said shaft, a double- Wedged surface provided on the inner side of said ring,- a rolling member engaging both said double-wedged surface and said shaft, a collar connected with said detent member and having a cage for receiving said rolling member, said feed roller having a recess therein for receiving said collar and a second recess therein opposite to said double-wedged surface of said ring.
