Abstract

14,321. Smith, W. T. June 19. Lap - forming apparatus; feeding carding- engines.-To prevent bulging of the ends of the laps to be fed to carding-engines, the lap bobbins are provided with flanges at each end. The flanges B are secured to centres A of a standard length by screws, nuts, sweating, forging, or in any other suitable manner, and they may be fluted, corrugated, formed hollow of two plates, or beaded at the edge. The centres A are provided with end studs a which engage suitable grooves in the framing C of the carding-engine, and maintain the lap in correct alinement with the carding-engine cylinder.
