Abstract

Frames; skins.-In a ship provided with a double cellular bottom, the inner bottom b is extended above the water-line, and wooden battens d are inserted between this extension and the hull for some distance above and below the water-line to form a buffer belt or fender. The fender may extend wholly around the hull, under the double bottom. The inner skins on opposite sides of the ship may be connected by I-beams e with diagonal stays f in both horizontal and vertical planes.
