Abstract
24,433. Short, H. L., Short, A. E., and Short, H. O. Oct. 28. Docks.-A floating dock for hydro-aeroplanes comprises a floating structure enclosing a basin or canal having at each end a channel leading to the open water ; the deck upon each side of the channel is of such a height that the planes of a hydroaeroplane floating on the water in the channel will extend freely over the decks, In one form, as shown in plan in Fig. 2, the floating structure comprises two pontoons 1, 2 fixed together by girders 3 so as to leave a channel 5 between, open from end to end, but provided with doors 6. Longitudinal girders 3<Î> and ties 4 are used to strengthen the structure. A shed 10 is erected over the deck, leaving open deck ends, and the ends of the shed are provided with hinged or sliding doors 7. A false or movable floor may be supported on the bed of the canal so as to be raised by tackle to lift the machine out of the water. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the structure is covered outside with plating 8 similar to the hull of a vessel. It can be raised or lowered relatively to the water-level by admitting or pumping-out water therefrom.
