Abstract
12,395. Lanman, H. H. May 25. Whistles.-An exhaust alarm whistle for motorvehicles &c. is formed by making whistle orifices in the exhaust pipe itself, which are opened or closed by a sleeve connected to and moving with a baffle-plate inside the exhaust pipe. The sleeve C is moved over the orifices B against the action of the spring by the levar H pivoted at F. A baffleplate G is also carried on the pivot F so as to rotate with the lever and form a narrow opening for the passage of the exhaust gases when the orifices B are uncovered. Normally, the orifices B are covered and the plate G is set parallel to the tube.
