Abstract
12,046. Schweinfurter Prõcisions-Kugel-Lagerwerke Fichtel & Sachs. May 30 1911, [Convention date]. Variable speed epicyclic gearing.-In an epicyclic gear suitable for cycles, motorvehicles, and d machines, a double train is employed, comprising stepped pinions 5, 6 carried by a member 9 and adapted to be engaged by an annulus 8 and two sunpinions. One sun - pinion 12 is non-slidable and is formed on the interior with clutch teeth 23. The other sunpinion 13 is slidable and forms part of a sleeve provided with clutch teeth 17, clutch teeth 14, 15 also being provided on a fixed member 25 and the planet-carrier 9 respectively. In the position shown, the teeth 13, 17 on the sleeve engage the planet-carrier and the pinion 12, and the gear rotates solidly. Upon moving the sleeve to the right, the planet-carrier is freed, the teeth 17 lock the sun-pinion 12 to the member 25, and another speed is obtained; further movement of the sleeve to the right brings the teeth 13 into gear with the pinions 6, the teeth 17 engaging the member 25 so as to lock the slidable sunpinion, thereby obtaining another speed. Either the annulus or the planet-carrier may be the driver, and the annulus may gear with either set of pinions 5, 6.
