Abstract

10,832. Buquet, I.. Aug. 5, 1911, [Convention date]. Composite and helical springs; connexions and attachments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs. - Relates to shock - absorbers interposed between the plate springs and the body of vehicles, and consists in providing two springs, namely, a tension spring to support the weight of the vehicle, and a compression spring of greater strength to absorb shocks, both being housed in a casing and stressed by the sliding of a central rod. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a housing 1 has a fixed collar 7, screw-threaded to receive the upper end of the tension spring 8, which is threaded in a similar manner on a collar 7<1> bolted to, and sliding with, the rod 2. Suitable means are provided on the upper ends of the housing 1 and rod 2 for attaching them to the vehicle. Surrounding the spring 8 is a stronger spring 9 of square section, which is in compression when the vehicle is normally loaded. The spring 8 serves to support the weight of the vehicle body, while the spring 9 absorbs all shocks. The central suspension spring may be duplicated, as shown in Fig. 5.
