Abstract

26,990. King, J. B. Nov. 23. Composite and semi-elliptic springs.-Relates to shock-absorbing springs for vehicles, of the kind that are arranged between the ends of the usual laminated axle springs and the vehicle frame, and consists in employing two plate springs B, D of different strengths, the stronger D of which bears at one end against the underside of the axle spring A by means of an adjustable screw E, and is connected with the dumb-iron H at the other end, the intermediate part being suspended from the end of the axle spring A by the weaker plate spring B, which is attached to the top of the axle spring. The slotted shackles F permit the main spring A and the plate spring B to act independently of the plate spring D for light shocks, the plate spring D only coming into action for heavy shocks, in which case the plate B contacts with the upper part of the spring A, and the link C transmits the shock to the spring D.
