Abstract
22,472. Cuffin, W. H. Oct. 6. Cee, composite, and laminar springs.-Consists in forming shock - absorbing shackles for the springs of road vehicles of laminated bow-shaped springs having an eye at each end. Fig. 1 shows a tension shackle formed of four plates united by a clamp 8 and bent round inwardly at the ends, where the plates are preferably thinned, to form attachment eyes 5. The eyes 5 may contain a bush 7. Fig. 2 shows a compression shackle with attachment eyes 5 bent round outwardly. The shackles are used in pairs, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, to connect the end of the usual axle spring 11 with the spring or dumb-iron 10 on the vehicle frame. The shackles may be cross-connected by a bar 9 as shown in Fig. 5.
