Abstract

12,234. Lean, C., [Peilert, K., and Voit, W.]. May 26. Composite springs; cylindrical arrangement of rods fixed at ends and loaded tangentially at middle. - Relates to shock-absorbers for the laminar springs of vehicles, and consists in employing resilient rods carried by two members which rotate relatively to each other under shocks and exert bending stress upon the rods. In the form shown in section in Fig. 2, and in plan in Fig. 4, a forked lever a pivoted at o to the end of the laminar suspension spring has holes in its arms a' into which fit resilient rods c surrounded by a casing d. A pin h passes centrally through this casing, and serves as pivot for a lever b provided with holes through which the rods c pass, and pivoted at p to the chassis or the end of the frame spring. The rods c are retained in position by end plates g. Relative movement of the levers a, b due to shocks is absorbed by the bending of the rods c. In a modification, the boss b<2> of the lever b is extended on each side to the arms of the lever a which is rigidly fixed to the chassis, while the lever b is connected by a link to the end of the suspension spring.
