[Cognate Application, 11,177/12.] Tread bands; tyre attachments to rims.-A tread band or a tyre gaiter comprises oblique bands a, b of leather or balata belting secured in pairs at their ends to hooked plates c, which engage between the tyre and the rim, and can be adjusted in the rim so as to tighten the bands on the tyre by altering their obliquity to the tyre. The ends of the bands are preferably secured by screws and nuts, so as to be easily replaced when worn. The bands a are preferably less oblique than the intermediate bands b. The bands are provided with non-skid studs, preferably having square washers in contact with one another, and canvas or other bands f are provided to prevent the studs from bearing on the tyre. Tyres, cooling by circulation of fluid.-Accordto the first Provisional Specification, blades may be provided on the plates c or in other positions to cause air to flow against the tyre for the purpose of cooling it.
