Abstract

7760. Sneddon, G., and Clark, A. March 30. Rumbles; sand-blast. - A rumble or tumbling-barrel for cleaning castings &c., within which the articles are subjected to a sandblast, comprises an outer barrel 1 mounted upon loose rollers 2 and a fixed hollow shaft 4, through which passes a tube 7 conveying the blast to the sand nozzles 26. The shaft 4 also serves as an escape duct for dust &c. A flange 8 upon the fixed shaft protects the barrel bearing from grit, and within the surface of the barrel and between it and a perforated cylindrical screen 31 are scoops which lift the waste sand and deposit it upon a moving sifting- screen over the sand hopper 5. The end door 14 of the rumble is clamped to a flange 22 by pivoted arms 21 operated by a screw-wheel 15.
