Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILBUR G. HUDSON, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, .ASSIGNOR TO GUARANTEE CONSTRUC- TION COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
CONVEYER-ELBbW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 29, 1911.
Patented Nov.
Serial No. 617,609.
veyers, either by forcing a draft of air through a conveying duct or by inducing an air current by exhausting from an inclosed tank into which the conveyed material is received, a considerable amount of abrasion has been found to occur at elbows or turns in the conveyer duct.
The object otmy invention is to provide means for minimizing such abrasion and reduce the frequency of renewal of the abraded parts.
In the accom muying sheet of drawings which forms a part of this application" Figure tie a longitudinal section through an inclosed elbow embodying my invention on the line I-I of Fig. 2. Fig. is a cross section on the line I--ll ot Fin. t.
The invention is illustrated in .'Ullllt('tl0[1 with a flang d elbow east with a pocket P at its bend. The mouth of the pocket is substantially (lUSttl or bridged by a wear plate W for which manganese steel is a suitable material.
a continuation of the inner surface otthe elbow, and forms substantially all 01: that portion of the interior elbow surface which The face of this plate Q even with the mouth of the pocket, iorlns receives the impact. of solid materials and from which they rebound in passingthrough l t l l admitted behind it. Its inward movement is limited by bolts B B, which project through the rear wall of'the pocket. Nuts N N on the bolts and'accessible. outside the elbow secure the wear plates and serve .as a means for its adjustment. The inside of the bend of the elbow is provided with an opening which is closed by a plug 0. Through this opening the wear plate can be inspected and removed and renewed when necessary. \Vhen there is a partial vacuum inside the elbow, the air back of, or behind the wear plate forces itinward, and tends to hold it in place against the impact of the material conveyed.
What I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
1. The eombination with an elbow pro- \ided with a pocket at its bend of a wear plate \'l(l(l:ll.)l supported in the pocket, substuntlull) as described.
The eumbiuation with an elbow proti o vided with a pocket at its bend of a wear],
plate elastically supported in the.po eket,q
