Screw and like propellers; detachable propelling-installations. - River and canal craft having aerial propellers are provided with a detachable installation comprising a carriage suitably anchored to the deck and capable of ready removal, upon which are mounted the power plant and the propeller. The carriage A, Figs. 2 and 3, supports a four-cylinder motor B, radiator C, change-speed gear D, and uprights g. The propeller F is carried in a bearing E on a platform hinged to the uprights, and is driven by chain gearing c. The propeller is surrounded by a protecting-cage G. The propeller may be turned down as shown when the vessel passes under a bridge. The platform has bitts H by means of which it can be secured to the boat by ropes. Hooks I and turnbuckles K can also be used in co-operation with rings J in the deck. In a modification, two propellers of opposite pitch are mounted on the same shaft and are driven in opposite directions.
