Piston packing. - A piston - ring of the form shown is made from two simple gapped rings a, b, which are first machined and then welded together for a portion of their length, so that the gaps are on opposite sides of the welded parts, as shown in Fig. 1. The welded parts may be grooved or otherwise treated to receive the welding-material.
