17,267. Ackerman, A. A. July 24. Projectiles. - Relates to driving - bands provided with a soft packing and follower ring. According to the invention, the driving-band C has a recess in which is seated a split metal ring E surrounded by a ring D of semi-plastic material, and a follower ring F is provided with a wedging-surface f engaging the split ring and with a wedging-surface f<3> engaging the compression slope a' of the gun, so that. when the gun is loaded, the follower ring is displaced and expands the split ring and the surrounding packing D. Wedges c, c<1>, and f<1> are also provided, and the packing D preferably contains lubricating-material. In a modification, the follower ring is made of two concentric parts riveted together.
