Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-A packing of the type described in the parent Specification comprises labyrinth rings 4, 5 carried by the shaft and casing respectively. The rings have straight, thin-edged, packing- teeth 6 opposed to sloping packing-teeth 7 having flat end surfaces 8 against which the teeth 6 pack. Two or more teeth 6 are provided for each tooth 8 to ensure packing irrespective of axial movement of the shaft. The longitudinal distance between the respective teeth 6, 7 is equal to the width of the packing-surface 8.
