Abstract
4903. Butters & Co., C., [Butters, C.]. Feb. 27. Ball and like mills; wet grinding.-In a tube mill for grinding or pulverizing cement, ore, &c., in which the effective discharge point of the pulp is above the level of the axis of the tube, or of the inlet, either inside or outside of the tube, the tube is charged with pebbles &c. to about 70-95 per cent of its capacity. Or the tube may be kept nearly full of pulp, while the mill is half full or more with pebbles &c. The tube a is rotated on trunnions c by a spur-wheel b, and is fed by a pipe d which connects with an axial inlet pipe e. A diaphragm i is fixed to the tube or to the stationary discharge pipe g to prevent the pebbles &c. from striking against the pipe. Instead of an horizontal mill, a tube inclined so that the level of the outlet is above the level of the inlet may be used.
