Abstract
16,286. Hardinge, H. W. Jan. 30, [Convention date]. Ball and like mills.-In a modification of the rotary-tube mill described in Specification 12,719/07, means are provided to prevent coarse particles of ore &c. from escaping with the fine particles from the conical outlet of the mill and for returning these coarse particles to the centre of the mill. As shown, one or more circumferential ribs or bars 17 which preferably extend in a substantially axial direction and incline downwardly towards the inlet 11, or one or more series of these, are mounted on the inside of the drum 10, or at least on the portion near the conical outlet 12. The bars 17 are removably and adjustably mounted with their lifting-edges 18 preferably bevelled towards the wall of the mill. The bars are fastened to the drum by bolts 19 having their heads sunk in the bars. Coarse particles are carried up by the bars and returned towards the centre of the mill for further grinding. The mill may be employed for wet or dry grinding. By reversing the inclination of the bars 17, the coarse particles can be discharged from the mill at a faster rate than the fines.
