Joints. - A flexible india - rubber hood A, Fig. 1, is held upon the umbrella stick B by the ordinary metal cap D, and forms a waterproof protective covering for the cover C; it fits closely around the cover but is not stitched or otherwise secured thereto. The lower edges of the hood may have a thickening or band. The ordinary leather or india-rubber ' fly ' may also be used between the notch and ribs and the cover.
