Charging. - A charging - hopper for gasgenerators, blast furnaces, shaft kilns, &c. has a ridge-section annular ring or bell 16 and a central bell or closure 25 operated so as to distribute the fuel centrally or circumferentially. The annular bell 16 is hung on a pair of levers 21, and the central bell is hung on a lever 27. The material is strewn centrally by raising the central bell 25, centrally and circumferentially by dropping simultaneously both bells 16, 25. The upward movement of the bell 25 is facilitated by a sleeve 32, which connects it to a cap 31 sliding on a gnide-rod 34.
