Abstract

21,824. Vaughan, H. H. Oct. 12, 1910, [Convention date]. Railway locomotives, steam.-In a locomotive boiler having a combustion chamber between the rear and for ward sets of fire-tubes, the combustion chamber is fitted with a superheater of the kind described in Specification 3094/07, [Class 51, Furnaces &c.]. The headers 70, 70<a>, Figs. 3 and 4, having intermeshing branches 70<c>, 70<f> are placed above the level of the boiler firetubes, and the looped superheater tubes 69 depend into the combustion chamber 4<s> between the rear and forward sets of fire-tubes 4<c>, 4<cc>. The headers are supported by a casing 4<v> above the boiler shell. The superheater tubes are inserted and removed through the top of the casing by removing the cover-plate 4<z>. A steampipe 70<w> and nozzles 70" are provided to direct steam against the tubes in order to clean them. The front section of the boiler serves as a feedheater.
