Systems.-In apparatus for raising and forcing liquids of the kind described in Specification 6874/02, the pump M, which is used for starting and maintaining the action of the apparatus, is rendered automatic by the provision of a pipe L leading from the high-level tank F to an extension n<1> of the pump cylinder in which works a piston connected to the main pump piston. The fluctuations in pressure in the vessel F cause the pump piston to reciprocate, the upward strokes being effected by a spring. Non - return valves are provided throughout the apparatus to maintain the flow of liquid in the proper direction.
