Abstract

19,207. Thompson, W. P., [General Gas Light Co.]. Aug. 28. Burners, attaching ; incandescent gas burners; mantle supports.-Relates to lamps of the kind in which the gas passes from the supply pipe 1 to a laterally extending pipe 3 which projects outside the casing and is turned down vertically to conduct the gas to the burner. The burner 10 and the mantle-carrying plate 13 are secured by screws 105 and 23, respectively, on a rod 16 suspended from the union 2, a shock-absorbing spring 17 being preferably interposed. The gas nozzle 6 passes into the conical mixing-tube 7 and is preferably joined to it by a spring 18 to diminish vibration. The screw 8 for adjusting the gas supply, and the valve 5, are both situated outside the casing 9. The plate 13 is provided with holes to receive the mantles, flanges being formed to receive the upper edges of the mantles. To protect the union 2 and pipe 3 from injury by convection currents, a wall 24 is provided inside the chimney 25.
