Toothed gearing.-In gearing for prepayment gas-meters, vending-machines, &c., the teeth of a wheel 1, normally driven by the wheel 2, as shown in Fig. 2, are recessed or stepped on one side to cause the wheels to lock together, as shown in Fig. 1, when the wheel 1 tends to drive the wheel 2. When applied to gas-meters, the wheels 1, 2 form part of a train connected with the coin-counting mechanism.
