Counters affording several rates of actuation; registering difference of positive and negative actuations.-A counting-apparatus for battery and other meters is capable of being driven at different rates in opposite directions by means of a ratchet device E, F, K, and a friction - tight wheel C which is controlled by a spring D and is adapted to actuate the worm B of the counter when the ratchet-wheel and pawl are inoperative, and vice versa. The wheel I is driven by the meter and rotates a spindle A on which pinions G, H are mounted; these pinions gear with the wheels E, C and may have differing numbers of teeth as well as, or instead of, the pinions G, H.
