Acetic acid; propionic acid; butyric acid.- In fermenting processes producing butyric, propionic, or acetic acid, &c., these products are withdrawn, as formed, by evacuating the fermenting-vessels. The products are removed as vapours and are condensed. Where gas, such as carbon dioxide, is evolved during fermentation, this carries over vapours, and a less degree of evacuation is necessary. The gas may be absorbed by an alkaline solution, before or during condensation of the vapours.
