Abstract
14,343. Herring, H. T. June 16. Movable-abutment type; packing vanes &c.- Improvements in the means described in Specifications 10,404/08 and 21,729/09 for lubricating and packing the teeth or vanes of pumps of the Roots'-blower type comprise the provision of passages in the casing, through which fluid impinges on the teeth after they have passed the inlet port. Such passages h, Fig. 1, open into the pump casing at a distance from the edges k of the inlet port d about equal to the distance between adjacent teeth, and are inclined so that the entering fluid impinges perpendicularly on the face of an advancing tooth. The passages may, however, be in other positions as in the position h<1> shown. In a modified form, as shown in Fig. 2, the passages h are formed in the end walls of the casing instead of in the body of the casing as in Fig. 1. The passages h connect a recess n in the end wall with the interior of the pump casing, and may be formed as grooves in the face of the end wall or as passages in its thickness.
