Movable-abutment type.-The shaft b carrying the driving-pulley e of a pump of the Roots'- blower type is surrounded at a point between the stuffing-box d and the working chamber by an annular chamber c<2>, which is connected by a pipe f<1> to a point on the suction side of the pump, which is swept past by the teeth of one of the gear-wheels after they have left the open pump chamber and become closely encircled by the casing. The pump may be used for machine tools &c. Specification 23,208/10 is referred to.
