Abstract

1,268,796. Centrifugal compressors. GARRETT CORP. Sept. 22, 1969, No. 46668/69. Heading F1C. In a rotary fluid-flow machine, e. g. a supersonic compressor, having adjustable diffuser vanes 26, Fig. 2, arranged between a pair of fixed walls 18, 20, Figs. 2 and 5, defining a fluid-flow path from the impeller 14 to a discharge scroll (16), Fig. 1 (not shown), each diffuser vane is provided with a sealing member 40. Each sealing member comprises a base 42 and lips 44, 46 which resiliently contact the walls 18, 20 and seal the clearance between the walls and the vane. The sealing member may be attached to the vane by clipping as shown or by brazing, and may extend for about one-half of the length of the vane, Fig. 7 (not shown). The lips of the sealing member may pass from one side of the vane to the other via said clearance and contact the walls 18, 20 at the other side. The leading edge of the sealing member may be curved as shown, or sharp-edged and formed by welding or brazing together two wall portions (42<SP>11</SP>, 50<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 4 (not shown).
