Oxyfatty acids. - Saturated oxyfatty acids are obtained by treating unsaturated oxyfatty acids with hydrogen in the presence of a suitable catalyst at as low a temperature as possible, preferably just above the melting- point of the final product, whereby the splitting- off of the hydroxyl groups is prevented entirely or to any desired extent. A suitable parent material is the mixture of unsaturated acids obtained by treatment of oleic acid with sulphuric acid. Specifications 1515/03, and 30,282/10, 5188/11, and 8147/11, [all in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], are referred to.
