Controlling-apparatus, arrangements of hand and foot gear in conjunction with.-Operating- mechanism is provided for two or more speed earing, such as described in Specification 25,170/09, [Class 80(ii), Gearing, Variablespeed &c.], in connexion with the hub of the driving-wheel, in which one speed is obtained by applying a band brake and another speed by operating a central rod. The band brake is operated by rotation of the spindle B, which is connected by an arm C to a slidable member D having an inclined surface D<2> adapted to engage a roller on one end of a lever E, the other end of which engages the central rod F.
