Abstract

6204. Thornton, W. E., Thornton, F. H., and Wilson, J. March 13. Frame components, forms of; secondary frames.-The open frame of a motor-cycle is built up of two sheet-metal side plates a with the engine i secured between them, and an auxiliary frame e carrying the axle of the rear wheel is pivoted to the main frame, which is suspended on the axle by flat springs c. The pivots g, on which the auxiliary frame e is mounted, are co-axial with a countershaft, which may support a variable-speed gear or reducing gear. The motor is secured to the side plates by transverse bolts j, and a cover u shields the lower part of the engine case. Tubular stays p support the seat o and also carry the tank q, the lower part of which is formed as a separate chamber r with side doors for the reception of the magneto s.
