Abstract

371,198. Motor-cycle frames. ENFIELD CYCLE CO., Ltd. and SMITH, F. W., Hewell Road, Redditch, Worcestershire. May 28, 1931, No. 15591. [Class 136 (iii).] A motor-cycle frame of the type formed from a single sheet-metal pressing comprises a backbone a of inverted-channel section and of longitudinally-tapered form, extending from the head to the rear wheel, and two side skirts a<3> connected to the backbone by shoulders a<4> and adapted to enclose and support the engine and driving gear &c. The backbone a tapers from the head to the rear wheel when viewed in side elevation, and in the reverse direction when viewed in plan. The head tube a<1> is secured within a socket part a<9> integral with or attached to the backbone a. The lower edges of the skirts a3 are flanged outwardly at a<5>. The primary driving chain and flywheel are mounted in recesses or pockets such as a<6> pressed in the side skirts a3, which are rigidly tied together by the studs which secure the engine, gear box, footrests, &c. The petrol tank, tool box, &c. are mounted in the backbone.
