Abstract
399,284. Carrier-cycles. GUNDLE, L. F., 41, Smith Street, Hockley, Birming- ham. June 21, 1932, No. 17485. [Class 136 (iii).] A carrier-cycle, of the type provided with a single wheel at the rear and with a carrier box at the front, comprises a main frame with a steering column provided with one or more forwardly-projecting primary arms and one or more forwardly-projecting secondary arms, the latter being adapted to carry or to be attached to the carrier or box, while the primary arms carry the front axle in the case of a tricycle, or support the secondary arms in the case of a bicycle. As applied to a carrier tricycle, the steering column 8 is provided at its lower end with a crown 9 having a lower transverse tube 11 carrying a pair of forwardly-projecting primary arms 12 secured by lugs 13 to a front axle 15 fitted with a wheel at each end. At each end of a further transverse tube 18 on the crown 9 is a seat 19 to which is clamped by a pair of plates 22 and by bolts 23 one of the secondary arms 20, which may be in the form of leaf springs adapted to be bolted to the carrier box. The arms 20 are resiliently supported from the axle 15 or from the primary arms 12 by coil springs or by rubber buffers 26 secured by spikes 27 &c. In the case of a carrier bicycle, the front wheel is mounted in the usual fork, at the upper end of which is a crown similar to the crown 9 and carrying the primary and secondary arms, the latter being supported from the front ends of the former by buffers.
