[Addition to 27,201/09.] Cast-iron and scrap processes; ore, oxide, castiron, and scrap processes.-The purification of iron by prolonged treatment in the basic openhearth furnace, as described in the parent Specification, is continued until the aggregate content of carbon, silicon, sulphur, phosphorus, and manganese does not exceed À10 per cent, and the oxygen content, after degasification, does not exceed À04 per cent.
