Abstract
22,201. Talbot, B. Sept. 29. Cast-iron processes.-In a pneumatic process, a charge of crude metal direct from the blast furnace &c. is subjected to the action of a blast introduced near to the surface, in order to eliminate practically all the silicon, and part of the carbon, and to convert the remainder of the carbon into a combined form. A further quantity of crude metal is then added to the partly purified charge, and the blow continued, and the product is tapped into an open-hearth or electric finishing-furnace. The converter and finishing-furnace are preferably worked on the continuous system.
