Abstract

4818. Boult, A. J., [Leeson, J. R.]. Feb. 25. Winding - machines; t e n s i o n arrangements. - The device described in Specification 26,232/04 for simultaneously and automatically varying the tension of the yarn, and the pressure of the threadguide on the cops being wound, is modified so as to maintain a maximum tension during the winding of about one third of the cop and thereafter to diminish the tension rapidly, while the pressure of the thread-guide is rapidly relieved throughout the whole of the winding of the cop. The device is shown applied to a winding-machine similar to that described in Specification 25,158/01, and comprises a weighted lever 20, which is adjustably connected with the pivoted thread-guide frame by a link 22 and carries another weighted lever 33 which is connected with the movable grid of the tension device 15. As the cop grows, the thread-guide frame is moved about its pivot and the lever 20 is raised, thus reducing the effective leverage of the weight 46 and the pressure of the guide on the cop, such reduction being augmented by the sliding of the weight along the lever owing to its connexion, by means of a link 54, with a stationary part. The lever 33 is raised with the lever 20, but, in order to compensate for the decreased effective leverage of the weight during the early part of its movement, the weight 38 is so connected with a projection 44 on the lever 20 that it is at first slid away from the pivot of the lever, so as to keep the pressure on the tension grid constant during the winding of the first third of the cop, and thereafter is slid towards the pivot, so as to reduce the tension of the yarn rapidly and simultaneously with the reduction of the pressure of the thread-guide.
