Winding-machines.-In machines for winding yarn and other materials, means are provided for automatically regulating the pressure of the thread-guide on the wound mass or package and also the tension of the yarn as the package increases in diameter. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the swinging frame h carrying the thread - guide is adjustably connected with a weighted lever a, and the movable part of a gridiron tension device d is connected with a second weighted lever c, which is pivoted upon the first by the bent end of the rod i which connects it with the swinging frame h. The effect of this arrangement is that both of the weighted arms are raised as the package increases in diameter, whereby the pressure on the package and the tension on the thread are automatically diminished. The invention is also described as applied to a machine having a thread guide mounted on a sliding rod instead of on a pivoted frame h, and to a machine in which the package as it is wound moves away from the fixed thread-guide.
