[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Variable-speed and reversing gearing, suitable for motor-vehicles, comprises worms b<1>, b2, b<3>, b<4>, Fig. 2, adapted to be meshed alternatively with worm-wheels c', c<2>, c<3>, c<4>, Fig. 1. The worms b<2>, b<3>, b<4> progressively increase in steepness and have correspondingly increasing numbers of threads. The worm b<1>, for reversing, is of opposite hand. The worms are fixed to a cylinder B, which slides on a square part of the driving-shaft A. The worm-wheels are fixed to a cylinder C, which slides similarly on the transverse driven shaft D. The cylinders B, C are operated simultaneously by screws g, h connected by toothed gearing G<1>, G, H, H<1>.
