Abstract

3296. Taylor, J., and Evans, D. H. Feb. 9. Stop-gear.-Relates to improvements in stopgear combined with governors of the type described in Specification 1985/99, in which in the event of a break-down the main governor weight is held in its operative position by a second pivoted weight. The invention consists in means for regulating the action of the second weight. Fig. 3 shows the tail of the main weight 1 held in its operative position by the catch 5. The auxiliary weight 10, which is shown out of action, is adapted at excessive speeds to swing about its pivots 17, and engage under the part 12 of the weight 1, and so hold this weight in its operative position and stop the engine. A plunger 13 acted on by a spring 15, the tension of which can be adjusted by a nut 18, projects in the path of a pin 16 on the weight 10, and before this weight can come into action the plunger 13 must be pressed back.
