Abstract

3282. Whittaker, J. Aug. 8. String holders.-In a device adapted to be attached to or used in connexion with a twine holder for winding - up any excess of unused twine, a reel eisrevolubly mounted on a partly - screwed pin c fixed in a frame a by nuts o, p, the screwed portion of the pin engaging a screwed hole in a plate l secured to the reel, and the head of the pin lying within an enlarged part of the axial hole of the reel. A spring m surrounds the pin and has its ends secured to the head of the pin and between the plate l and the reel respectively. The twine is passed through a hole b in the frame, then through an inclined hole j in the reel, or through a loop of the like thereon, and out through a hole d. Normally a length of twine is wound round the reel e, and when the twine is pulled the reel is rotated winding up the spring m until the head of the pin contacts with a shoulder g. The desired length of twine is drawn off, and, when the end is released, the excess length is wound on to reel.
