1892. Ward, S.A. Jan. 25. Reversing-valves. - Controlling-valves for reversible compound engines, of the type described in Specification 17,306/08, comprise a conical bush B, Fig. 2, open at both ends and provided with ports H, I, J, K leading to the supply and exhaust of the high-pressure and low-pressure cylinders respectively, a conical valve plug A with a central steam chamber M and an outlet L, side passages D, D<2>, Fig. 5, outlet passages N and a double wedge-shaped recess P; and a spindle C, Figs. 1 and 7, carrying a disk C<2> with passages N<2> and a key Q adapted to engage the recess P in the valve plug. Rotation of the spindle first opens one of the passages N, and then places the port L opposite the port H or I to drive the high-pressure piston in one or other direction, the exhaust passing by the passage D or D<2> to the low-pressure cylinder, the exhaust therefrom passing by way of the passage D<2> or D and the corresponding passage N to the outlet E.
