Abstract

102,355. Davies, H., Mason, P. F., and Wood, A. July 18, 1916. Compound engines.- A flat D.shaped intercepting slide valve, applied to a compound engine, is shown in the closed position in Fig. 2, as arranged for simple working in Fig. 4, and as arranged for compound working in Fig. 5. The valve, Fig. 6, has a central cavity B and two apertures N, D. In the position shown in Fig. 4, steam passes to the high-pressure cylinder through the port P and passage D<2>, and exhausts therefrom through ports and passages H., H<2>, B, S, S<2> to the low-pressure exhaust outlet; and steam passes to the low-pressure cylinder through ports N, J and passage J<2>. In the position shown in Fig. 5, the high-pressure exhaust passes through ports and passages H, H<2>, J, J<2> to the lowpressure cylinder.
