Traversing-cutter type for cutting designs. - In apparatus of the type described in Specification 13,458/02 for cutting oval or other shaped openings in cardboard, the knife k is received in a channel of two depths in the block u, and is maintained in position by passing it through a clip f carried by a spring back-plate e, below a top-plate i and between grub screws l, laterally adjustable to suit knives of varying widths. The back-plate e is held in position by the projecting heads of screws h and by a pin c which engages a perforation in the back-plate. The knife is guided during the cutting operation by the engagement with a template of the required shape of two replaceable wedges p carried by arms m longitudinally adjustable through the block a. Pins projecting from the underside of the template serve to secure the template in position on the cardboard. According to the Provisional Specification, the back-plate may be made of curved spring metal.
