In a razor with a doubleedged wafer blade, the usual guard is dispensed with, and the blade is secured in a carrier comprising two chamfered or bevel edged plates c, f, which clamp the blade as near its cutting- edge as is possible or desirable and serve as a guard. The plate c has a stud d, by which it is detachably pivoted in slots c in a sheath-like holder a, and studs l, n which are engaged by slots k, n<1> in the other plate f, which is also formed with a hole to fit over the stud d and a stud h which engages a hole i in one side of the holder. The blade b has two notches in each end for engaging the studs d, n, l, and for stropping purposes, the blade is engaged upon the studs n, l only. The plate c has a thickened part o which serves to force open the jaws of the holder as the carrier and blade are turned into position; the carrier is detached from the holder by depressing the plate f and disengaging the stud h from the hole i. The plate f may be dispensed with, and the side of the holder extended and similarly formed. The plates c, f or the extended holder may be bevelled for only half their length c<2> so that one half of the blade is protected. The plates c, f may be united at a part which forms the thickened portion o, or they may be hinged together at one end. In a modified form, a projection on the carrier engages behind a curved edge on the holder so as to draw the stud d into the slots c as the carrier is turned into the holder. The plates c, f are arranged to spring apart.
