Counters, arrangements of. - In a counting-mechanism forming part of a differential s p e e d indicator, provision is made for the direction of movement of the hands to be independent of that of the shaft, and for zeroizing the counter. The spindle 8, which is pressed into engagement with a recess in the shaft the speed of which is to be ascertained, has a flange 9 bearing against balls 9<a>, whereby the end thrust is taken. A double train of worm, ratchet, and spur gearing driven from a screw 3 ensures that a spurwheel 6 shall always rotate in the same direction, and thereby rotate a spring 10 fast upon a central spindle 11 carrying a units revolution hand 12. Suitable motion-work communicates movement therefrom to a hundreds hand 35. Zeroizing-mechanism.-The hands are zeroized by a complete reversal of the train effected by a key 26, Fig. 3, when placed on the squared end of the central spindle,
